POSITION SUMMARY:
This position has oversight of the infection control program at the hospital and its campuses under the supervision of the IP Director. This includes management of surveillance, reporting, monitoring and education of all staff involved in these processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in the area of infection prevention, control and epidemiology.
2. Demonstrates basic knowledge and advances education, knowledge, and skills as they relate to infection prevention and control, NHSN public reporting and performance improvement.
3. Responsible for development and implementation of Annual Infection Prevention and Control Plan based on recommendations from and approval of Infection Control Committee.
4. Reviews, assesses and investigates lab data relative to infection rates, sources, and trends associated with specific objectives as determined by the Infection Prevention Committee.
5. Works collaboratively with all hospital departments to develop, maintain, revise and enforce infection prevention policies and procedures.
6. Works with Materials Management and all Department Managers to devise more efficient, reliable and cost-effective ways to ensure the integrity of infection prevention activities and safety of the patients and staff.
7. Responsible for the agenda, Infection Prevention reports and introduction of business at the Infection Prevention Committee meetings.
8. Serves as liaison for the Infection Prevention Committee with hospital committees and departments.
9. Serves as liaison for the public health department in the reporting and follow-up of “Reportable Communicable Disease”.
10. Assists in the planning and presentation of orientation and in-service training programs for hospital staff and physicians.
11. Keeps abreast of all developments in infection control and conveys this information to the involved departments, committees, and administration.
12. Works collaboratively with Employee Health on preventive actions and monitoring of staff to exposures of infectious diseases.
13. Participates and supports community education.
14. Makes rounds and establishes contact with nursing units, endoscopy and other departmental staff, to determine problem areas, policy compliance and informational needs
15. Works collaboratively with Director of Plant Operations to ensure patient and staff safety during construction projects by minimizing potential exposure.
16. Completes work within appropriate time frame.
17. Demonstrates ability to set priorities.
18. Is knowledgeable of and performs well in stress and emergency situations.
19. Performs other related functions as assigned.
20. Collaborates with other disciplines to identify educational needs and/or provide patient/family education regarding infections and communicable diseases as per hospital policy and procedure.
