Summary or Purpose

Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, the Coordinator of Intervention Services will promote and support the NSBSD Board of Education Strategic Plan and District Pedagogy. The Coordinator will assist in the implementation of district pedagogy, curricular materials, and adopted research-based instructional strategies. The Coordinator will provide curricular support including selection and evaluation, and uphold State and federal laws in all NSBSD schools. This position provides support for teachers that models culturally responsive, safe, and individualized instruction. This means that differences in individual learning style, rate of learning, level of maturation, level of achievement, and social emotional well-being will provide the basis for instructional and curricular decision-making.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education required.
  • State of Alaska Type 'A' certificate required, type 1 B' certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective intervention strategies and materials is required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the RTI/MTSS process and structure is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively in multilingual/multicultural environment required.
  • Ability to work, live and travel in remote areas of Alaska required.
  • Progressive professional attitude; the ability to accept and implement educational change required.
  • Ability to work and contribute as a member of a management team required. General knowledge of current trends and issues in education required.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience in evaluation/selection of curriculum materials preferred.
  • Rural Alaskan experience preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Remain abreast of developments and innovations in the field of education as it relates to curriculum and instruction.
  • Assist in continual upgrading of District wide curriculum and programs.
  • Assist in organizing a variety of pedagogical, methods, and curriculum & instruction training programs and staff development activities related to effective intervention processes for the District.
  • Assist in the determination of types of curriculum and instruction programs needed by the school sites.
  • Prepare and submit curriculum and instruction reports and other required documentation as required.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and review of District curriculum and instruction standards.
  • Assist in supporting the Alaska Reads Act.
  • Coordinate District-wide curriculum and instruction functions such as review committees and District-wide Curriculum meetings.
  • Assists the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in evaluating the quality of the District's instructional programs for intervention in light of District priorities, program goals, projected student outcomes, performance objectives, and state and national standards.
  • Assists in coordination of District-wide programs including lnupiaq language initiatives, and culturally safe and responsive pedagogy, and Social and Emotional Learning initiatives.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of District-wide Rtl/ MTSS program. Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction may assign.
