The Rutgers Division of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports, comprised of 14 women's and 10 men's programs, that compete at the Division I level. The Scarlet Knights are members of the prestigious Big Ten Conference, the nation's premier academic and athletic conference, after officially joining the league on July 1, 2014. Known as "The Birthplace of College Football, Rutgers hosted Princeton on Nov. 6, 1869 in the first intercollegiate football game, with RU earning a 6-4 victory.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Coordinator of Athletic Bands for the Athletics Marketing and Communication department.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Coordinates and manages all aspects of the Rutgers University Pep Bands (approximately 225 students), providing coaching and support for all on and off campus events and appearances, and in-game presentation elements for Men's/Women's Basketball, Volleyball and other events where applicable.
  • Assists with the coaching of the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights (approx. 385 students). Writes scripts for all pregame and halftime shows for the MSK and in game production for the Rutgers University pep bands.
  • Attends annual B1G and NCAA tournaments for Men's and Women's basketball and annual bowl games for football.
  • Provides visual drill design and choreography for the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights, including game week preparation.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree ideally in music education, or related professional experience in the field of collegiate athletic bands and/or visual and drill design.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to make decisions independently.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree.
  • Significant professional experience in the field of collegiate athletic bands and/or visual and drill design.

Equipment Utilized

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, Pyware, and Ultimate Drill Book.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to life boxes at times.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
