Job Summary

The Coordinator of Athletic Counseling provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of academic support services for student-athletes within the Student Success Center. This position supervises athletic academic counselors ensures compliance with institutional and NCAA regulations, and supports the academic success, retention and graduation of student-athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Director of Student Success and provides supervision to Athletic Academic Counselors.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise and provide guidance to athletic academic counselors, including training, evaluation, and workload assignment.
  • Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality academic support services across all assigned sports.
  • Develop and implement best practices for academic counseling, progress monitoring, and student support.

Program Oversight and Coordination

  • Coordinate academic support services for all student-athletes, including advising, tutoring, and mentoring and study programs.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and assessment of supervised study and mentoring programs for student-athlete.
  • Coordinate and monitor the NCAA Academic Performance Program and related reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and promote compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Academic Monitoring and Student Success

  • Oversee systems for tracking academic progress, eligibility, and retention of student-athletes.
  • Ensure accurate and complete recordkeeping for all student-athletes.
  • Review academic data and identify trends, at-risk populations and opportunities for intervention.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Facilitate collaboration between athletes, the Student Success Center, and campus community.
  • Communicate information regularly regarding academic programming and student progress for student-athletes to the Director of Student Success and other administrative individuals and reasonable need to know.

Recruitment and Eligibility Support

  • Oversee the review of academic credentials for prospective student-athletes and families during recruitment periods as needed.
  • Participate in meeting with prospective student-athletes and families during recruitment periods as needed.

Compliance and Professional Development

  • Maintain current knowledge of University, Sun Belt Conference, and NCAA policies and bylaws.
  • Ensure staff adherence to all regularly requirements and institutional policies.

Other Duties

  • Serve as a referral resource for campus support services.
  • Attend departmental and University meetings.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, sport management, or a related field required.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic advising or counseling, preferably within intercollegiate athletics.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and academic eligibility requirements strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with student-athlete academic support programs.
  • Experience with academic tracking systems and data analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple programs and stakeholders.
