Coordinator of Fire Science and MPA Programs

The School of Business, Arts, and Sciences invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Fire Science and MPA Programs. This administrative position combines program coordination, student recruitment, academic planning, and teaching responsibilities in support of newly launched undergraduate and graduate programs offered in both traditional and online formats. The successful candidate will hold faculty rank as an Assistant Professor and play a key role in shaping and growing these programs while preparing the next generation of public safety, emergency services, and public administration professionals.

American International College recently launched the Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and Emergency Services, offered both as an online degree-completion program and as a traditional on-campus undergraduate degree. The College has also introduced a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, providing students with opportunities to specialize in areas such as Criminal Justice Leadership, Fire Science and Emergency Services, and Emergency Management. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Business, Arts, and Sciences, the Coordinator will provide leadership for program operations, curriculum development, enrollment growth, assessment, and adjunct faculty support while teaching six courses annually across multiple modalities. Working closely with the Director of Public Safety and Administration Programs, this individual will help drive program quality, student success, and long-term program sustainability through innovative instruction, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to academic excellence and workforce readiness.

Responsibilities:

Teaching

• Teach six (6) courses per academic year across both traditional (on-campus) and online programs, delivering high-quality instruction aligned with program learning outcomes; maintain regular office hours and foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment through meaningful engagement with students to promote their academic success and professional development.
• Develop, update, and deliver course content that reflects current practices in fire science and emergency services, using engaging and applied teaching methods.

Program Coordination

• Serve as Program Coordinator for Fire Science and Emergency Services and MPA program, collaborating with the Director of Public Safety and Administration Programs to develop course schedules, plan offerings, ensure program quality, and support continuous improvement.
• Support the development, review, and assessment of curriculum across programs to ensure academic rigor, relevance, and alignment with industry and public sector standards.
• Coordinate adjunct faculty processes, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, support, and evaluation, while fostering instructional quality and consistency.

Recruitment & Program Growth

• Lead and actively engage in student recruitment efforts, with a strategic focus on expanding enrollment in the online Fire Science and Emergency Services, and MPA programs, with a strategic focus on expanding enrollments.
• Collaborate with the Dean, admissions, marketing, and the Director of Public Safety and Administration Programs to develop recruitment strategies, represent the program at events, and build partnerships that enhance visibility, access, and enrollment growth.

Service & Institutional Engagement

• Contribute to departmental, school, and institutional service, including participation in committees, curriculum development, and program assessment to support continuous improvement and alignment with industry standards.
• Engage in professional service and ongoing development in fire science and emergency services, while fostering partnerships and connections that enhance student opportunities and program visibility.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Services, Public Safety, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field
• Significant professional experience in fire service, emergency management, or related discipline
• Demonstrated ability or strong potential for effective teaching in higher education
• Experience or willingness to teach in both in-person and online formats

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior college-level teaching experience
• Experience with online teaching and learning management systems
• Program coordination or academic leadership experience
• Strong professional network in fire science/emergency services sectors
