JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator of English Language Arts and Social Studies will lead, coordinate, and supervise the planning and implementation of Social Studies and reading and writing programs K-12 in the District.
QUALIFICATIONS
a. Required - Master's degree in education
b. Preferred - Bachelor or master's degree in English
a. Required: Wisconsin Administrative Certification and Reading Specialist Certification (317/5017)
b. Preferred: English educator license
a. Required - Minimum of five years' teaching
b. Required - Administrative experience or minimum three years' experience in a leadership role, such as an assistant principal, principal, teacher consultant, instructional coach, dean of students, program support teacher or other administrative school position

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assume the leadership role for the District's English language arts programs K-12 and administer the related District policies as well as state and federal statutes and regulations.
Coordinate development, implementation and evaluation of the English language arts curriculum K-12.
Ensure the awareness and implementation of the Wisconsin English Language Arts Standards K-12 for students across the curriculum.
Develop, recommend, and implement comprehensive goals, policies, and procedures regarding district-wide ELA programming.
Coordinate the selection, implementation, and evaluation of district intervention programs for reading.
Prepare detailed and comprehensive reports, including data analysis, for principals, district leadership, and the Board of Education.
Develop, provide and coordinate professional learning opportunities.
Lead, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.
Remain current in best practice and research through organizational membership, conference attendance, analysis of current trends, and recent scientific-educational literature review.
Promote and support District curriculum and digital learning platforms.
Develop, implement, and manage the ELA budget annually.

Thorough understanding of pedagogy and best practices in urban education
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Facilitation, consensus building and conflict resolution skills
Understanding of high-quality instructional practices and technical knowledge of instructional platforms, tools and strategies including ability to learn KUSD specific software applications.
Understanding and knowledge of the teacher evaluation process
Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with district staff, Department of Public Instruction, vendors, and the community
Ability to participate on District committees
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to work within the organizational structure to facilitate change
Demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior including ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Effective and efficient time/task management skills, including planning, managing and organizing
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time; occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; consistently and repetitively operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machine and/or computer printer; regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information with administration, staff, and the public. Occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted.
