The Coordinator School Counseling & SEL will provide coordination, leadership, and support in the implementation of the district''s comprehensive K-12 Developmental Guidance Program, College Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) Plan, and social-emotional learning initiatives.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support

  • Lead and support all school counselors (K-12) in the development, planning, and implementation of a developmental guidance and counseling program. The model includes Defining, Managing, Delivering, and Assessing components of a comprehensive school counseling program
  • Conduct professional development for all school counselors
  • Work with campus principals and administrators to provide support and to promote the role of the school counselor

Systems

  • Evaluate and promote continuous improvement of the district's Developmental Guidance Program
  • In collaboration with District Registrar, support the work of Counselors and Registrars in maintaining an accurate system of transcript audits and record maintenance
  • Assist campuses with college and career readiness assessments and work with campus counselors to analyze results and communicate with parents and students
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of SEL curriculum development and integration

Collaboration

  • Support the director in budget management activities
  • Collaborate with other departments or stakeholders to develop and monitor systems to increase student enrollment in Pre-AP, AP, and Dual Credit courses
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders in the district to align initiatives, activities and training
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders or departments to support mental health initiatives
  • Serve as a resource to principals in the implementation of the district's crisis management plan
  • Participate on district task forces and planning groups as appropriate

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Develop the counselor pool by conducting initial screening and interviewing of applicants

  • Master''s Degree
  • Texas School Counselor Certification or Eligible for Texas Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years School Counseling experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of the experience at the secondary level preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the implementation of a Developmental Guidance Programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and remain flexible with multiple job demands

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
