Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Coordinator in the Student Accounts Department. The Coordinator of Student Accounts is responsible for overseeing various aspects of student accounts management, including reviewing and evaluating accounts, handling collections, addressing student inquiries, and supervising the Student Accounts staff. Key responsibilities include monitoring cash receipting procedures, processing payments, refunds, and financial aid distributions, and assisting with customer service. The role also involves identifying improvements to financial processes, developing reports, and collaborating with finance and financial aid teams to ensure smooth operations. The Coordinator ensures compliance with internal procedures, manages discrepancies in bank deposits, and maintains confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information. Additionally, the position requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Examples of Duties
- Review and evaluate student and sponsor accounts as needed
- Oversee collection efforts
- Process returned checks and approve related bank payments
- Address student inquiries and complaints referred by cashiers, the Financial Aid Office or others
- Supervise Student Accounts staff
- Establish and monitor procedures for cash receipting
- Monitor deposits to state and local bank accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with customer services when cashiers require assistance
- Record electronic payments received
- Monitor and recommend changes to Financial Aid processes that affect student accounts
- Monitor and recommend changes in general ledger accounts for scholarship and financial aid funds
- Establish third party sponsor accounts
- Monitor and recommend changes in Financial Aid distribution processes
- Process student tuition and fee refunds
- Process financial aid distribution ("refund checks")
- Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
- Proactively examine processes and seek ways to improve, automate, or otherwise extract efficiencies
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice-President for Finance and Administration or the President
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree (or higher) in Accounting, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of five years of related experience, with experience in Student Accounts.
- Two years in a supervisory or lead role preferred.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague system, preferred.

Normal Working Hours:
A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-day work weeks.
