    The Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator is part of the Health Promotion, Prevention, and Advocacy unit and reports to the Assistant Director of Prevention and Advocacy. This role serves as the campus' primary victim advocate and provides oversight of direct support for students who experience various forms of sexual misconduct. The Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator will assist with campus prevention initiatives including resource development, education, awareness raising, collaboration, and programming related to sexual misconduct. This role will provide advocacy and outreach that is aligned with diverse cultural, identity, and spiritual needs. The employee in this role is expected to undertake all responsibilities in a manner that reflects the Catholic, Jesuit Mission of the university, as well as a holistic framework that centers cura personalis or care for the whole person. This role requires a flexible work schedule with on-call and weekend duties anticipated following incidents of sexual misconduct and periodic training/outreach.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Serve as a confidential advocate for students affected by various forms of sexual misconduct, including stalking, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence, and sexual assault; determine individual student needs which may include crisis management; inform students about campus and community resources; provide referrals to community hospitals and agencies; direct victims to appropriate reporting agencies and sometimes accompany them.
    • Collaborate with campus and community professionals to support the needs of student victims. Provide needed consultation for faculty, staff, and other students who are supporting student victims. Establish and maintain a diverse network of professional liaisons on campus. Maintain documentation that meets standards of privacy and client needs as well as regulatory standards. Complete monthly and annual reports related to client services, statistics, case disposition, and other services provided.
    • Develop educational materials including handouts, presentations, webpages, and social media posts to contribute to current and future prevention efforts. Remain up to date on the latest prevention and intervention best practices for college campuses. Serve as an educator and resource for the campus community regarding intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment, and supporting survivors.
    • Supervise the Advocacy Network professionals, participate in after-hours on-call rotation, and support the line for victims/survivors.
    • Interact with local police, hospital personnel, and other social service professionals when advocating for clients. Participate in coalitions and/or task forces related to sexual violence and intimate partner violence as indicated. Perform responsibilities in accordance with the expectations and directives generated by Title IX, the Campus SAVE Act, and the Cleary Act. Coordinate with Title IX and MU-PD to ensure compliance.
    • Co-lead campus-wide awareness events aligned with role, including Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Denim Day, Stalking Awareness Month, and other relevant months.
    • Work with Prevention and Advocacy and Health Promotion teams to advance unit efforts and cultivate a culture of well-being, including supporting the professional development/growth of the peer educators through specialized trainings, co-facilitation of presentations, and being a resource.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Bachelor's degree in Social work, public health, nursing, counseling, or related
    • A minimum of two years of related experience required.
    • Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to uphold confidentiality and privacy standards in all forms of communication.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to provide crisis intervention and manage crisis assessments with a responsive and culturally sensitive approach.
    • Ability to work with high acuity students.
    • Ability to work successfully within a multidisciplinary team, multiple systems, at times with competing priorities.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Master's degree in Social work, public health, nursing, counseling, or related
    • 4-5 years related experience
