Responsibilities

Conduct functional behavior assessments.

Develop, implement and monitor behavior intervention plans and goals based on data and student need.

Execute data collection methods to support interventions and behavior change.

Plan, deliver, and assess social emotional content aligned to age-appropriate standards.

Foster a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, both academically and socially.

Ability and willingness to "think outside the box" and demonstrate innovation in classroom and behavior management.

Dedication to the success of children and families.

Monitor student progress towards the mastery of behavioral goal; assist the classroom teacher in the monitoring and assurance of academic progress.

Establish relationships and communicates with teachers, administrators, and family members.

Create, implement and monitor a transition plan for students to return to the general education classroom.

Provide on-going support, training, and resources to general education teachers throughout the transition process.

Identifies and seeks resolution for potential problems arising with any involved parties; attends all required meetings that discuss student and program progress.

Demonstrate behavior that reflects established professional responsibilities (i.e. attendance, punctuality, verbal/nonverbal communication).

Participate in activities, meetings, and workshops that foster professional growth specific to challenging academic and social needs of children assigned to the classroom.

Comply with all local, state and federal policies/laws.

Work collaboratively with others.

Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or other supervisor.

Qualifications

Master's Degree in School Counseling.

Professional Student Support Certificate endorsed for School Counselor.

Meet qualifications as outlined in West Virginia Code 18A-4-7a.

Meet minimum standards for certification as set forth by the West Virginia Board of Education in Minimum Standards for Licensure of West Virginia School Personnel.

Exhibit knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of the school counselor and behavior interventionist with the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as demonstrated in a personal interview, which will be weighed heavily in the search/selection process.

Specialized training in behavior modification and behavior management.

Demonstrated experience collecting relevant data to help track and modify inappropriate behavior.

Ability to develop, implement and monitor individual behavior plans.

Ability to develop, implement and maintain student data collection system for students with specialized behavioral needs.

Ability to create and implement a standards-based individualized counseling/therapy program for student needs and monitor progress through the collection of appropriate data.

Maintain and participate in professional development, focusing on behavior interventions and strategies, counseling practice, MTSS, and other relevant topics as required.

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.

Demonstrated ability to communicate e?ectively with students, school personnel, parents, community members, and WVDE personnel.

Demonstrated competency and knowledge in delivering counseling services consistent with professional standards.

Possess good evaluations and/or recommendations in previous work-related performance and evidence of high academic achievement in school counseling preparatory programs.
