Corporate Accountant
Position Summary
Brookwood, a dynamic and fast-paced organization, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Corporate Accountant to join our team The Corporate Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete books and records for several corporate entities and supporting the Company's monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. This role is responsible for general ledger accounting, account reconciliations and analysis, accounts payable activities, journal entries, and other recurring accounting responsibilities.
The Corporate Accountant will work closely with other members of the Accounting and Finance team to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely, balance sheet accounts are appropriately supported, and financial information is complete and reliable. The position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage accounting responsibilities across multiple legal entities and reporting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Monthly Close
- Maintain the general ledger and books and records for multiple corporate entities.
- Perform monthly close activities in accordance with established reporting timelines.
- Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, allocations, intercompany transactions, and other corporate activity.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis.
- Review income statement and balance sheet activity for reasonableness and completeness.
- Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting activity.
- Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting and close requirements.
Accounts Payable & Invoice Processing
- Ensure invoices are appropriately coded to the correct legal entity, general ledger account, and other applicable accounting dimensions.
- Confirm invoices have received appropriate approval and supporting documentation prior to processing.
- Assist with invoice accruals and ensure expenses are recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
- Work with Accounts Payable to research and resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external vendors to resolve outstanding invoice or payment matters.
- Review and process 1099’s annually for corporate entities.
Account Analysis & Reporting
- Perform monthly account analysis and provide explanations for significant or unusual fluctuations.
- Prepare schedules and supporting analyses for management and other members of the Finance and Accounting organization.
- Assist with the preparation of internal financial reports and other recurring reporting requirements.
- Identify accounting errors or inconsistencies and work with appropriate team members to resolve them.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis and accounting projects as needed.
Cash & Other Corporate Accounting
- Record and reconcile corporate cash activity and bank accounts, as assigned.
- Assist with accounting for corporate credit cards, employee expenses, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other corporate accounts.
- Assist with maintaining corporate entity records and ensuring accounting activity is recorded in the appropriate legal entity.
Audit, Controls & Compliance
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors and other third-party service providers.
- Prepare annual financial statements and associated footnotes for review.
- Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Maintain appropriate documentation to support the completeness and accuracy of the Company's accounting records.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
- Assist with implementation of process improvements and accounting system enhancements.
Other Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Legal, and other corporate functions.
- Respond to accounting inquiries and provide timely information to internal stakeholders.
- Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Approximately 2–5 years of accounting experience, including general ledger and corporate accounting responsibilities.
- Solid understanding of basic U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
- Experience preparing journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Experience working with multiple legal entities and intercompany accounting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, reconcile, and analyze financial data.
- Experience with an ERP or other general ledger accounting system required.
- Experience within real estate, investment management, financial services, or a multi-entity organization is strongly preferred.
- CPA is a plus but not required.
