Position Summary
We are seeking a Corporate Tax and General Accountant to support both the tax and accounting functions across multiple U.S. and Canadian entities. This role is responsible for coordinating tax compliance, research, and planning activities while also providing accounting support, participating in financial close processes, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in both tax and accounting, with experience navigating a variety of business structures, tax matters, and financial reporting responsibilities.  This hybrid role is an exempt position and reports to the Corporate Controller.

Essential Responsibilities
Tax & Compliance
  • Prepare and compile U.S. and Canadian income tax information for external tax advisors.
  • Conduct tax research and provide guidance on tax-related matters.
  • Coordinate tax audits and responses to taxing authorities.
  • Manage tax accruals and filings for state and local taxes, including Ohio CAT, Washington B&O, and similar jurisdictions.
  • Provide sales and use tax support to subsidiaries.
  • Prepare personal property tax filings.
  • Assist with partnership, LLC, and corporate tax matters.
  • Oversee annual 1099 reporting and compliance.
  • Support payroll tax compliance and issue resolution.
  • Monitor tax law developments and assess potential business impacts.

Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for corporate and subsidiary entities.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review financial results, research variances, and support management reporting.
  • Assist with maintaining effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support audits and requests from external auditors.
  • Provide general accounting support to corporate and operating company leadership.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting and tax experience, preferably with a small to mid-sized public accounting firm.
  • Experience with both tax compliance and GAAP-based financial reporting.
  • Strong background in income tax with exposure to sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and other business taxes.
  • Experience with partnership/LLC pass-through taxation and corporate taxation.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tax requirements preferred.
  • Private industry accounting experience is a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
