Job Summary and Qualifications
The Tax Compliance group is responsible for preparing and filing the consolidated federal income tax return for HCA Healthcare Inc. and all state income and franchise tax returns. Tax Compliance Interns will be assigned specific companies that are contained in our large consolidated return and will prepare the full Form 1120, the federal Corporate Income Tax Return, for these entities and all associated state income and franchise tax returns.
Interns will participate in full training sessions that are held for full-time staff and are assigned work that is equivalent to staff accountant level. Interns are assigned a coach to supplement their training and learning experience.
Tax Compliance offers both a Spring/Summer and a Summer Only internship experience. Spring/Summer interns work on a part-time basis starting in early February, which is flexible around school schedules. The work experience in Spring is focused on learning the processes and software to prepare depreciation calculations for federal income tax purposes. Spring interns transition to a full-time schedule in mid-May when the Summer Only interns join the team, and tax return preparation is fully underway.
The summer portion of the internship for all interns ends around the end of July. We also offer a rotational internship to select interns - meaning interns start the summer with the Compliance team and move to the State & Local Tax (SALT) Research team for a portion of the summer.
As an intern, you will prepare federal, state, and local income tax returns, including reconciling deferred income taxes and preparing state extensions and estimates.
Job Responsibilities
• Prepares federal, state, and local income tax returns and state extensions and estimates utilizing tax return preparation software systems. • Reconciles deferred income taxes in support of the calculation of overall deferred income tax assets and liabilities. • Prepares tax depreciation calculations utilizing fixed asset software to support the completion of federal and state income tax returns. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
• High School Graduate • Equivalent is required • Pursuing a degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university • The preferred GPA is a cumulative 3.5 or above with a minimum required GPA of a cumulative 3.00-4.0 scale
