  • Job Type: Temp to Perm (opportunity to extend or convert to permanent based on business needs)

  • Shift: 2nd Shift
  • Hours: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Position Overview:
This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care within a correctional healthcare setting , including assessment, treatment, medication administration, and emergency response. The Licensed Practical Nurse supports the health and safety of incarcerated individuals while ensuring compliance with clinical standards, safety protocols, and correctional facility requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Nursing Care: Perform all aspects of licensed practical nursing duties within scope of practice
  • Patient Assessment: Observe and report physical and emotional behaviors of inmates
  • Medication Administration: Prepare, administer, and document physician-ordered medications and treatments
  • Care Planning: Implement nursing care plans under direction of RN or physician
  • Vital Signs & Treatment: Check vitals, perform treatments, and support restorative care techniques
  • Infection Control: Follow all infection prevention and control procedures
  • Emergency Response: Provide first aid and CPR during medical emergencies
  • Daily Living Support: Assist inmates with hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Documentation: Record care activities and maintain accurate medical records
  • Medical Support Tasks: Sterilize equipment, maintain supplies, and prepare incident reports
  • Correctional Interaction: Manage and supervise inmate interactions related to healthcare services

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Setting: Correctional facility healthcare unit
  • Mobility: Must navigate stairways in housing units and travel within facility
  • Physical Demands:
    • Lift, transfer, and reposition inmates
    • Push/pull medical carts and wheelchairs
  • Sensory Requirements:
    • Adequate vision for patient assessment and safety
    • Ability to hear and communicate effectively, including use of stethoscope
  • Attendance: Must report to work consistently and complete full shifts
  • Overtime: Must be available for mandatory overtime when required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Current Pennsylvania Practical Nurse License (LPN) OR eligibility to sit for licensure exam
  • Experience: Prior nursing experience preferred in clinical, acute, long-term care, or correctional settings
  • Education: Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Data Entry: Ability to accurately enter resident health data into electronic databases

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Clinical Skills: Medication administration, wound care, vital signs, patient monitoring
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication with clinical and correctional staff
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to assess patient needs and respond to urgent situations

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform duties for entire shift without interruption
  • Must adhere to strict security, confidentiality, and correctional facility guidelines
  • Participation in mandatory in-service training and meetings required
  • Must maintain ongoing competency in clinical nursing skills
