    Per Request Needed (PRN) Registered Nurse (RN) - Robertson & Middleton Units | Abilene, TX

    Join our correctional healthcare team as a Per Request Needed (PRN) Registered Nurse (RN) serving the Robertson and Middleton Units in Abilene. This flexible opportunity is ideal for experienced, compassionate nurses who are committed to delivering exceptional patient care while enjoying the flexibility of a PRN schedule.

    PRN RNs are expected to work a minimum of four (4) 12-hour shifts per month based on departmental staffing needs. As a vital member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide professional nursing care, coordinate patient treatment, and promote positive patient outcomes in a secure correctional environment. You will practice in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, accepted nursing standards, and organizational policies while serving as a clinical leader and resource for the healthcare team.

    • Provide Comprehensive Nursing Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while ensuring treatment is delivered in accordance with established nursing standards and individualized care plans.
    • Monitor and Evaluate Patient Conditions: Recognize, assess, and report changes in patient status to support timely interventions, problem identification, and achievement of patient care goals.
    • Perform Clinical Procedures: Perform nursing assessments, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures while accurately documenting all patient care activities in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
    • Medication Management: Safely administer medications, monitor patient responses, and maintain accurate medication documentation in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare and Operate Medical Equipment: Ensure medical equipment and instruments are properly prepared, operated, and maintained for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
    • Maintain Safety and Security Standards: Complete and document required counts of sharps, medical instruments, and keys while adhering to correctional safety protocols, infection prevention standards, and medication security procedures.
    • Coordinate Interdisciplinary Care: Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and correctional personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
    • Triage Patient Needs: Evaluate sick call requests, prioritize patient concerns, and facilitate timely access to appropriate medical care.
    • Conduct Nursing Rounds: Perform nursing rounds in assigned housing and clinical areas to assess patient status, monitor ongoing treatment, and identify emerging healthcare needs.
    • Support Quality Patient Care: Participate in team meetings, maintain current knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices and treatment modalities, respond promptly to clinical and operational requests, and contribute to the goals of the Managed Care team.
    • Provide Clinical Leadership: Serve as a resource and leader for licensed vocational nurses and other clinical support staff, promoting teamwork, accountability, and excellence in patient care.
