Job Summary: Directly supervise/mentor/coach/discipline staff. Ensure occupants are processed properly and ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of occupants. Responsible for the accuracy of jail records, compliance with Federal/State standards and MCSO and Milwaukee County policies and procedures. In the absence of a Captain, assume the roles and duties of a Captain. Other duties as assigned.

There will be an interview conducted before a panel consisting of three Captains.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the laws and rules pertaining to the operation of Judicial System, Corrections, and Law Enforcement; knowledge of the procedures used in supervising the custody of occupants; knowledge of approved Use of Force, oleoresin capsicum, lethal and non-lethal weapons and emergency equipment; knowledge of the principles of criminal justice and their application to occupant custody; knowledge of how to maintain discipline among the officers, employees, occupants, and visitors and methods used in preventing unauthorized persons from entering and leaving secure areas; ability to interpret the laws and rules; ability to organize work and develop work methods; ability to perform repetitive work without loss of equanimity, patience, or courtesy, to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations, and to retain emotional stability; ability to work effectively with others. Ability to use safely and properly use vehicles, tasers, OC spray, radios, computers, and general office equipment. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 100 lbs. Ability to complete 24 hours of in-service annually.
Note: This Promotional Examination is open to qualified current internal employees of Milwaukee County and external candidates.
