Description of Work

The Correctional Regional Food Service Manager provides comprehensive operational oversight and support to food service departments across multiple correctional facilities.

This position ensures safe, efficient, and compliant food service operations by evaluating equipment needs, conducting inspections, supporting menu development, and offering hands on guidance when facilities lack food service leadership.

This position will serve the following facilities and will have an office location TBD based on department and employee needs:

Central Area: Caswell, Central Prison, Columbus, Dan River PWF, Franklin, Granville, Lumberton, Harnett, NCCIW, Orange, Randolph, Richmond, Sanford, Scotland, Southern, Tabor, Wake, Warren

Key Responsibilities

  • Support facility food service departments to maintain consistent food preparation, menu execution, sanitation standards, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Identify and coordinate food service equipment needs, oversee procurement, and monitor installation to maintain operational readiness.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of food service areas, assist with corrective actions, and support accreditation processes, including ACA compliance.
  • Provide direct assistance to facilities by overseeing food and nutrition operations in the absence of on-site management, reviewing product orders, and giving feedback on food items and menu components.
  • Deliver training and instruction for food service personnel, including ServSafe certification and operational skill development tailored to facility needs.
  • Offer technical guidance on food safety, sanitation practices, institutional food service equipment, and food systems management, while collaborating with committees to refine recipes and menu offerings.
  • Assist with additional tasks assigned to support the broader Food and Nutrition Management Section.

This position requires independent decision making, thorough knowledge of institutional food service operations and equipment, effective communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and support multiple facilities while maintaining high standards of sanitation, safety, and service quality.

Salary Grade Range: $52,592.00 - $92,036.00

This position is being reclassified to require certification.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Documented experience managing institutional or large‑scale food service operations.

  • Documented experience in inspections, compliance, and food safety/sanitation standards.

  • Documented experience training staff and communicating policy

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Education Equivalency Verification
