Overview

2nd Shift - 2pm - 10:30pm with rotating weekends

Pay - $45/hr. weekly

We are actively seeking a dedicated Correctional Registered Nurse (RN) for the second shift to join our correctional health services team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility, ensuring the health and safety of incarcerated individuals while adhering to strict safety and confidentiality standards. The Correctional RN will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, conducting assessments, managing acute and chronic conditions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote health and well-being in a secure environment. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through compassionate, professional nursing practice in a unique setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health histories for incarcerated individuals.
  • Administer medications, including injections and IV infusions, following proper aseptic techniques and medication protocols.
  • Manage acute pain and provide emergency care in accordance with established protocols, including airway management and ventilator support if necessary.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations such as specimen collection, laboratory testing, and documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
  • Monitor patients’ conditions continuously, triage urgent cases, and coordinate appropriate interventions or referrals to specialty services such as cardiology or infectious disease care.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure proper documentation of treatments, procedures, and case management activities.
  • Support infection control procedures and adhere to OSHA standards to maintain a safe environment for staff and inmates.
  • Collaborate with mental health teams to address behavioral health needs and assist with dementia or Alzheimer's care when applicable.
  • Provide education on health coaching topics such as medication administration, chronic disease management, or nutrition.
  • Participate in discharge planning, long-term care coordination, and case management efforts to optimize patient outcomes.

Skills

  • Proven experience working in correctional healthcare settings or similar environments requiring security awareness.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing practices including IV insertion, suturing, catheter care, phlebotomy, and sterile processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and diagnostic evaluation procedures.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations accurately and assess patient needs effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health challenges.
  • Critical care experience or ICU background is highly desirable; familiarity with trauma medicine or Level I/II trauma center protocols is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Workers' compensation law related to occupational injuries within correctional facilities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative approach within multidisciplinary teams.
