This announcement is for current Correctional Sergeants with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry only.

Job Duties:

- Conducts recruitment activities statewide, e.g.
- Attends and participates in job fairs, recruitment seminars, and community visits
- Attends oral presentations
- Coordinates with various resource centers
- Addresses community organizations
- Communicates orally and in writing to applicants concerning their status in the hiring process
- Assists applicants in completing the hiring process and documents issues in the applicant tracking system
- Conducts Evaluation Centers, e.g.
- Prepares testing materials, gives oral instructions, administers written tests, and scores written tests
- Administers written psychological tests
- Makes job offers for new hires and rehire

WORK CONDITIONS:
- Works various hours/shifts, which may include weekends
- This position requires in-state travel regularly, which could include overnight stays
- This position conducts a large number of phone calls daily throughout the week, including incoming calls, outgoing calls, and cold calls

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:
- Recruitment and interview techniques, ADC policies and procedures, ADOA Personnel Rules, personal computer and software, and duties of a Correctional Officer
- Methods and practices of safety, security, custody, and discipline of a correctional unit
- Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the custody and control of inmate populations
- Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the management of employees
- Methods and techniques of management and supervision
- Methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling as applied within the rehabilitative programs of the unit
- Methods and techniques of training staff in the security practices and procedures
- Rules and policies governing classification, discipline, and due process of the inmate populations

- Apply and interpret the Federal and State laws, agency rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing custody and control of inmates
- Apply methods and techniques of management and supervision
- Apply and train in the methods and techniques of paraprofessional counseling and crisis intervention of inmates
- Apply and interpret the communications as required by the duties and assignments in a correctional setting
- Interpersonal relationships within a correctional setting
- Maintain a calm and professional temperament during emergency situations
- Perform administrative work activities appropriate to the assignment

Selective Preference(s):

- Prior customer service and recruitment experience
- Complete employee engagement prior to the interview for 1-4 hours
- One (1) year minimum Sergeant experience

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to the appointment.

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S)-THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED:
Employees must currently be a Correctional Sergeant with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry, have worked a minimum of 12 months at the current division/institution by the close date of the announcement, and received at least a meets expectations overall rating on their most recent performance evaluation.
Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
The ideal candidate will have public speaking, oral presentation, customer service, and computer experience. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry.
