Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to serve as the Assistant Chief of Security for Unit 4, overseeing Field Operations, Sanitation, and the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW) Field Operations. This leadership role is responsible for a wide range of critical security and operational functions, including Field Work Crews, Squad 5, Blanching Operations, the Sanitation Crew, Horticulture Crew, Cleaning Supplies Dispensary, Horse Lot Operations, the Iberville Parish Work Crew, Gillis Long Crew, and the DOTD Litter Crew. The position also provides oversight for the Training Department, Garment Factory, Soap Plant, Intake/Trips, Warehouse, and Front Gate operations. The ideal candidate will bring strong supervisory experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining safety, security, and operational excellence across diverse correctional work environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

  2. One year of experience in any field; OR

  3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current drivers license.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Make daily inspections of the fields, ground which include over 4300 acres and 83 acres of vegetable gardens, trips, intake, garment factory, soap plant, and the control center.
  • Coordinate the seeding and planting of different varieties of vegetables, used in the feeding of inmates on a daily basis.
  • Complete all investigations as assigned.
  • Maintain a working relationship with Prison Enterprise Farm Managers so as to coordinate inmate work schedules and provide assistance in monitoring the garment factory, soap plant, and the farm operation of Elayn Hunt Correctional Center and LCIW.
  • Responds to significant institutional unusual occurrences as defined by Institutional/Departmental Policy.
  • Coordinate the activities of security and non-security employees as they relate to the Unit 4 Field and LCIW Field.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

  • The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
