    Job Summary

    Corrections Education Specialists are responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating educational programs within correctional facilities. They assess inmate educational needs through academic and vocational evaluations, develop individualized educational plans, coordinate educational services, monitor student progress, and modify learning plans as needed. The role also includes supervising educational staff, managing program activities, and ensuring compliance with correctional education policies and objectives.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
    • Minimum 1.5 years of professional teaching experience involving:
      • Developing lesson plans
      • Delivering classroom instruction
      • Assessing student performance
      • Modifying educational plans based on progress
    • Knowledge of educational principles, instructional methods, and learning strategies.
    • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience in a corrections education program.
    • Knowledge of:
      • Correctional education laws and regulations
      • Educational requirements for inmates
      • Correctional education program goals and objectives
      • Educational institutions and community resources
      • Federal and state educational programs and agencies
    • Ability to assess educational and vocational needs.
    • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans.
    • Strong documentation, case management, and record-keeping skills.
    • Ability to coordinate educational services and monitor participant progress.
    • Supervisory aptitude or experience leading and directing staff.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

    Additional Requirements

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
    • Must successfully complete drug screening and background investigations.
    • Must meet Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) employment requirements.
    • Ability to work within a correctional environment and interact professionally with inmates and staff.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience supervising educational staff and programs.
    • Experience in inmate educational case management.
    • Experience coordinating educational and vocational training programs.
    • Knowledge of rehabilitation and re-entry education services.
