THE POSITION

As a Corrections Employment and Vocational Assistant with the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion, you play an important role in helping inmates prepare for productive futures. You support job readiness, coordinate training experiences, and assist individuals as they build practical skills. Your efforts help inmates overcome challenges and move toward greater stability. This position provides a meaningful opportunity to guide growth and support long-term success.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports the Inmate Employment Program by helping coordinate work assignments, guiding training needs, and assisting inmates with job readiness. You work closely with institutional staff, inmate workers, and the Corrections Employment Vocational Coordinator to support employment goals and vocational growth. As a Corrections Employment and Vocational Assistant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Work Assignment Support: Assist with coordinating work assignments, reviewing employment histories, and recommending vocational opportunities
  • Payroll Coordination: Train supervisors on payroll procedures, audit time records, and address payroll problem inquiries
  • Employment Counseling: Provide guidance to help inmates address job challenges and select training options
  • Record Management: Document inmate work status, training progress, and re-entry information for reports
  • Supervisor Communication: Maintain communication with inmate supervisors and support problem solving for work assignments

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
