The pay range for Lieutenant is $122,874.14 - $196,598.08 annually
When setting pay we consider applicants’ experience and County tenure in relation to other employees performing a similar level of work. Pay in this job profile will be set competitively, taking into account the compensation offerings to positions supervised, recognizing that overtime and premium pay are part of those total compensation packages.

A Corrections Lieutenant operates with minimal supervision and is responsible for the operations of an assigned section, unit, or project within the Sheriff’s Office.
Examples of Duties:
Plan, organize, manage, and administer corrections operations of an assigned section, unit or project within the Sheriff’s Office;
Manage large units (includes day-to-day operational considerations and the planning and implementation of changes related to safety, security, and strategic operational planning);
Supervise many facets of a large staff (encompasses professional development, positive work environment, cultural change management, and succession planning);
Review and process a variety of staff reports and inmate misconduct reports;
Audit and approve staff payroll through the county pay management system;
Monitor shift schedule and make operational changes as needed;
Ensure facility plants and operations meet required Oregon Jail Standards;
Foster relationships with multiple labor entities;
Develop, administer, assist, and monitor budgets; develop justifications for budgetary recommendations and/or adjustments;
Draft, develop, and implement modern, professional and comprehensive policy and standard operating procedures;
Direct and approve through subordinate supervisor(s) the planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, training, and review the work of a diverse workforce;
Demonstrate intergovernmental awareness; cultivate and nurture relationships and lead initiatives with various county, professional affiliation(s) and interest groups;
Coordinate MCSO operations and efforts with other divisions, departments, and organizations; act as a representative on committees, interagency task forces, and special projects;
Conducts mentoring, coaching, and appropriate disciplinary processes and documentation.
Coordinate and assess the evaluations of probationary deputies and supervisors.
Work with minimal supervision and be available for after-hours phone calls; provide after-hours and on-duty command response during critical incidents or any incident as directed.
To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a current Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Corrections Sergeant who has successfully completed two years of service with MCSO as a Corrections Sergeant by June 30, 2026.
