This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student workers for the Corvallis Farm Unit at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Corvallis Farm Unit is seeking to hire 2-3 student employees to assist with seasonal farm operations. This position provides hands-on experience working in both agricultural and research environments, supporting daily field activities across multiple farm locations.

Student employees will assist with a wide range of responsibilities including planting, cultivation, irrigation setup and management, harvesting, and general crop maintenance. Duties will also include weed and pest management, basic equipment maintenance, and upkeep of farm facilities such as roads, fences, shops, and communal spaces. Additional tasks may include field scouting, data entry, record keeping, transportation of tools, materials, and/or equipment between locations, as well as contributing to special projects as needed.

This role is well-suited for individuals interested in agriculture, research, or gaining practical outdoor work experience. Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve physical labor.

Position Duties

Field Operations Support (35%)

  • Assist with planting, cultivation, harvesting, mowing, and general crop maintenance.

Irrigation Setup & Management (20%)

  • Set up, move, repair, and monitor handlines, drip systems, and other irrigation equipment.

General Labor & Miscellaneous Tasks (15%)

  • Support special projects, assist staff, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain shop areas, fences, roads, and general farm cleanliness.

Weed, Pest, and Crop Management (15%)

  • Perform weeding, scouting, and assist with pest and disease management tasks.
  • Assist with field notes, digital entries (Agworld, etc.), and research data collection.

Basic Equipment Maintenance (10%)

  • Assist with routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspections.

Travel and Transportation (5%)

  • Travel between farm locations and assist with transport of tools, materials, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

  • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must feel comfortable operating a variety of equipment including:
  • Trucks

Gators, UTV, ATV,

Tractors, Combines, harvesters and other farm equipment

  • Must have the ability to work independently and within a team
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, and/or loud noise.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend over, and stoop for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Botany, or similar subject
  • Experience working in farming, landscape, or gardening.
  • Tractor and or ATV safety certifications
