Job Summary
The COS Improvement Engineer will apply engineering and Lean Six Sigma knowledge and concepts to identify scope and manage projects and activities that will improve process control and overall plant efficiency. The position requires the ability to build strong working relationships and communicate effectively with plant personnel and management to effectively identify and execute the activities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also required. Standard work hours Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm with occasional overtime and weekends required. Travel 20% throughout the year.
Duties and Responsibilities
Apply engineering knowledge to the manufacturing processes to identify improvement. Perform root cause analysis to reduce process waste. Utilize statistical analysis and software tools to evaluate manufacturing. Prepare written justifications for approved capital expenditures. ACEs.
Play a key role in advancing CCMs lean journey across the organization. Facilitate events and meetings focused on manufacturing improvements and cost. Track and report project progress. Coordinate and manage numerous teams and projects to execute and sustain improvement. Identify and prioritize potential manufacturing improvement projects in responsible areas. Attend and facilitate Kaizen and other continuous improvement events throughout the year. Work with the COS team to further drive the overall COS journey to establish a culture of continuous improvement throughout CCM.
Research and prepare written justifications for capital expenditures.
Required Knowledge
Skills
Operational understanding of manufacturing business software systems, business systems, functions, and how they inter-relate and customer expectations.
Proficient understanding of fundamental Lean tools, including but not limited to:
Value Stream Mapping 5S Mistake Proofing TPM MDI Root Cause Analysis
Strong understanding of Six Sigma tools and approach, including but not limited to:
DMAIC Measurement System Analysis Statistical Process Control (SPC) Process Capability Experimental Design Design of Experiments (DOE)
Effective project and time management techniques
Working knowledge of various software systems, including:
Microsoft Office SAP Minitab Wonderware
Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Conflict resolution, listening skills, coaching, and facilitating skills.
Ability to identify scope and execute numerous improvement projects.
Capacity to communicate complex theories in simple terms to all levels of the organization.
Effectively able to articulate technical details in written communication.
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelors degree, preferably in Industrial Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
2 years of experience in a lean Six Sigma enterprise or equivalent educational background.
Lean Champion Certification and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is a plus.
Working Conditions
Office environment setting with occasional plant settings where the plants may be dirty, dusty, and hotter/colder than office settings.
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with occasional overtime or weekends.
