Summary: The Clinic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing cosmetology students in a supervised salon setting during the summer session (outside the K-12 school year). This position supports students in applying classroom knowledge through hands-on practice to meet the 1,500-hour state requirement for cosmetology licensure. The supervisor ensures a safe, professional, and supportive learning environment while maintaining accurate records and monitoring student progress.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  1. Provide student orientation to clinic operations, including salon duties, sanitation procedures, dispensary/stock room, maintaining client sheets for services, and front desk procedures.
  2. Follows and enforces all policies and procedures in support of a safe work environment for students and staff.
  3. Foster a professional, respectful clinic environment that promotes customer service and workplace skills.
  4. Creates an environment of respect and rapport.
  5. Assesses the accomplishments, skills and techniques of students on a regular basis.
  6. Updates student records and monitors student hours for state licensure. Maintains all required records to ensure accuracy and completeness and processes them as instructed.
  7. Updates skills checklist of services.
  8. Maintain salon tools, equipment, and facilities according to industry standards; report maintenance or inventory needs to administration.
  9. Sets up computerized appointment book and service lists.
  10. Sets up register and accurately manages financial transactions.
  11. Follows all building and Board of Education policies and guidelines. Must be attentive to district and program update information that will generally be provided via district e-mail account.
  12. Keeps current with industry standards and practices.
  13. Participates in professional development activities, some of which may be outside the contractual workday.
  14. Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position.
  15. Other duties assigned by the Principal or Adult & Career Education Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must meet all of the requirements established by the State of Michigan to have and maintain a Cosmetology Instructor's license, including three years of relevant practical experience.
  • Must have a record of successful experience working cooperatively with others.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • Candidates with experience as a cosmetology instructor may be given preference.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Candidates must have and maintain a Michigan Cosmetology Instructor's license. Preference may be given to applicants who are able to obtain appropriate professional certification and endorsement upon employment to be a Michigan high school Cosmetology Instructor.

Other Skills and Abilities: Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students of various skill levels, academic levels and diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds. Able to establish and model effective relationships with other staff, parents and clinic customers. Committed to participating in industry specific technical updates to upgrade skills. Able to organize work and meet deadlines. Able to perform work outside the instructional day as needed for the assignment, which may include participating in student events and competitions. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, The position occasionally requires irregular or extended work hours. The employee is responsible for the safety of students. Must be able to meet demands from several people. The employee is responsible for student safety.

Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits:Anticipated employment date is June 8, 2026. Pay rate is $34.84 per hour with no fringe benefits. This position is part-time.
