Cosmetology Instructor Full-time Temporary Fall 2026 Gogebic Community College seeks candidates for the Fall 2026 semester for a full -time temporary faculty position to teach in the Cosmetology Academy at its Ironwood, Michigan campus. This position has the potent ial to transition to part -time status beginning with the Spring 2027 semester. The faculty member will be responsible for supporting and ensuring the fulfillment of the educational goals and objectives of GCC 's Cosmetology Academy. The teaching load includes a variety of cosmetology -related courses, as well as clinical and experiential laboratory assignments. Additional responsibilities include oversight of the college's cosmetology instructional area and salon; maintenance and management of cosmetology instructional and laboratory equipment; curriculum development; student advising; and other related professio nal duties. The starting pay grade for this position is on the MAHE Faculty BA or Less/Initial schedule and will be based on experience. The minimum starting salary is $51,640 annually ; however, candidates with qualifying experience may be considered for a higher starting salary, though this is not guaranteed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Provid e classroom instruction for the Cosmetology Academy by teaching skills necessary for a career in hair styling, coloring, facials, scalp treatments, and shop/laboratory techniques . • Assess student learning through the appropriate state and institutional guidelines. • Maintain student discipline through effective classroom management. • Develop, updat e, and post course syllabi and instructional materials . • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submitting grades according to established guidelines. • Maintain a safe , professional, a nd up -to-date academy and classroom. • Creat e, maintain , and submit accurate records as required by the State of Michigan . • Motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity to concerns brought forward through public/client interaction via in classroom discussions and/or activities . • Mentor students on career path options and personal development. • Develop and maintain professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings. • Coordinat e marketing, recruitment, and retention of students with academics and student services. • Serve on college committees as assigned. Required Qualifications: • Possession of current Michigan Cosmetology Instructors License or ability to gain licensure prior to the start of the Fall 202 6 semester. • Licensed as a cosmetologist in the state of Michigan • Have at least three years practical experience in natural hair cultivation, hair care services, skin care services, and manicuring services, at least one year of which shall be in a cosmetology establishment. • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent Preferred Qualifications: • Associate Degree in Cosmetology from a regionally accredited institution • Post-secondary teaching experience • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and teaching techniques • Background knowledge of classroom and student assessment Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
