SUMMARY

Plan, prepare for, and teach assigned courses; evaluate student progress; maintain necessary records; and submit institutional reports in a timely manner. Assist in departmental and institutional planning, serve on college committees, and perform other job-related duties as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Workforce Development and the Lead Cosmetology Instructor of Business and Industry.

The Workforce Development Weekend Bilingual Cosmetology Instructor supports the implementation and ongoing evaluation of the cosmetology program to ensure compliance with State Board of Cosmetic Art standards. This role provides instructional support and hands-on training during weekend cosmetology classes, delivers instruction in both English and Spanish, supports bilingual learners, and helps students develop the technical, professional, and safety skills necessary for success in the cosmetology profession and for state licensure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures compliance with the NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts Rules and Regulations
  • Deliver instruction in both English and Spanish to ensure comprehension and engagement for bilingual and Spanish-speaking students.
  • Translate or clarify course materials, demonstrations, safety procedures, and technical terminology when necessary to support student learning.
  • Provide classroom and hands-on instruction in cosmetology courses during weekend sessions, following the approved curriculum and program standards.
  • Communicate effectively with students, program staff, and administration in both English and Spanish as needed.
  • Meet and hold classes as scheduled.
  • Provide academic assistance and support to students.
  • Prepare, implement, and evaluate student learning outcome-based course outlines aligned with program outcomes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Maintains student records and monitors student progress.
  • Complete and submit required institutional reports in a timely manner.
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment in accordance with safety standards.
  • Prepare instruction that reflects appropriate learning objectives and program requirements.
  • Instruct and guide students in an efficient and effective manner during classroom and lab activities.
  • Assist the Lead Cosmetology Instructor with curriculum development and scheduling of instruction.
  • Assist with student recruitment efforts and support retention strategies.
  • Assist with the coordination of specific program or course management activities as assigned.
  • Serves as liaison between college, student, public, community, and business/industry in the area of professional expertise.
  • Continuously evaluate instructional effectiveness and student progress to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Provides students and the college with written course expectations as defined by the college, including general course information, course objectives, methods used in the evaluation of students, grading policy, attendance policy, textbooks, etc.
  • Provide the supervisor with copies of all current course syllabi.
  • Assist with aligning program learning outcomes with institutional competencies.
  • Conducts ongoing self-evaluations to improve instructional techniques and methodologies.
  • Promotes a positive image of the college.
  • Participate in professional development and community service activities.
  • Assist students with identifying career opportunities in the cosmetology field.
  • Assist with the annual inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists with equipment and software maintenance within the cosmetology program.
  • Demonstrate appropriate computer and technology competencies related to instructional responsibilities.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Maintain required office hours each week as assigned.
  • Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiently operate a computer and related software.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Skills

Required: Certified Cosmetologist with a valid NC Cosmetology Instructors license. Bilingual (Spanish/English), good human relations skills. Good communication skills.

Work on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Some weekdays may be necessary.

Preferred: Associate Degree in Cosmetology.

Experience

Required: Two years of directly related work experience.

Preferred: 3 - 5 years of directly related work experience. Some teaching

experience. Understanding of and commitment to the Community College

System.
