Key Responsibilities for the Cost Accountant



  • Analyze production, material, labor, and overhead costs to identify savings opportunities as the Cost Accountant.

  • Monitor job profitability, investigate cost variances, and report findings to management as the Cost Accountant.

  • Oversee inventory valuation, physical counts, aging analysis, and reserve calculations in the Cost Accountant role.

  • Support month-end close activities, journal entries, and financial reporting as the Cost Accountant.

  • Develop and maintain costing processes, systems, and reporting tools as the Cost Accountant.

  • Partner with departments on forecasting, budgeting, compliance, and special projects as the Cost Accountant.

  • Provide meaningful financial analysis and recommendations that support business objectives as the Cost Accountant.

  • Assist with process improvement initiatives that enhance operational and financial performance as the Cost Accountant.


Qualifications for the Cost Accountant



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required for the Cost Accountant position.

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, required for the Cost Accountant.

  • Strong background in cost accounting, inventory management, and financial analysis essential for the Cost Accountant.

  • Experience with month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting expected of the Cost Accountant.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required for success as a Cost Accountant.

  • ERP experience (SAP, Syspro, or similar) preferred for the Cost Accountant role.

  • CPA or CMA designation preferred for the Cost Accountant.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills needed to excel as a Cost Accountant.
