This role will directly manage the Inventory Accounting Specialist and serve as a key partner to Supply Chain, Operations, and FP&A.The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a process improvement mindset suited for a high-growth environment.Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Inventory Management Lead all aspects of cost accounting, including average costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuationManage monthly close activities related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing costsEnsure accurate tracking of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods across 3PLs and internal systemsOversee inventory reconciliations, cycle counts, and physical inventory processesAnalyze and report on inventory reserves, obsolescence, and shrinkageManage, mentor, and develop the Inventory Accounting SpecialistEstablish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectationsReview work for accuracy and completeness while driving efficiency in day-to-day processesIdentify opportunities for automation and skill development within the functionFinancial Analysis & Reporting Develop detailed product-level profitability and margin analysisProvide insights into cost drivers, pricing strategies, and operational efficienciesPartner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and cost planningCreate dashboards and reporting packages for executive leadershipOperations & Supply Chain Partnership Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement to improve cost visibility and controlSupport new product launches with cost modeling and margin analysisEvaluate contract manufacturing, co-packing, and supplier cost structuresAssist in freight and logistics cost analysis and optimizationSystems & Process Improvement Enhance NetSuite cost accounting functionality and reportingDrive process improvements to increase automation, accuracy, and scalabilityImplement best practices for inventory controls and cost accounting proceduresSupport integration and optimization of 3PL and inventory management systemsCompliance & Audit Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policiesSupport external audits, including inventory and cost-related inquiriesMaintain strong documentation and internal controls over inventory and costingQualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including cost accountingPrior experience managing or mentoring staff (direct management preferred)Strong experience with inventory accounting in a product-based or CPG companyAdvanced proficiency in NetSuite (or similar ERP systems)Deep understanding of standard costing and inventory controlsAdvanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilitiesPreferred Qualifications CPA or CMA certificationExperience in supplements, food & beverage, or consumer packaged goods (CPG)Experience working with 3PLs and multi-location inventory environmentsFamiliarity with manufacturing or contract manufacturing environmentsStrong leadership and team development skillsAnalytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilitiesAbility to translate complex data into clear business insightsStrong cross-functional collaboration and communication skillsHighly organized with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesProactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvementWork Location & Schedule This position follows an enforced hybrid schedule, requiring team members to be present in our San Diego, California office at least four days per week (Monday–Thursday). Fridays are available for remote work. This role also requires attendance at all in-person monthly team meetings and quarterly company events.Physical Requirements This role primarily involves office-based work and requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 20–30 pounds, such as files or office supplies. Employees should be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform frequent computer-based tasks, including prolonged exposure to a computer screen.Compensation & Total Rewards The salary range for this position is $100,000-120,000 annually.
