Job Summary:
The Cost / Inventory Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records related to inventory valuation, product costing, and manufacturing operations for AJR Enterprises and related subsidiaries. This position is responsible for supporting standard costing, inventory accounting, bills of materials (BOMs), cost center mapping, variance analysis, and inventory controls to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares monthly financial reports, schedules, and journal entries related to inventory valuation, work-in-process (WIP), and capital projects (CIP).
- Maintains and reconcile inventory accounts, including inventory balances and production variance accounts.
- Analyzes and investigates manufacturing variances, including material, labor, overhead, productivity, and inventory variances.
- Calculates and maintains bills of materials (BOMs), unit product costs, and annual standard costs to support product costing and customer quotations.
- Maintains standard costing data and support updates resulting from engineering or manufacturing changes.
- Participates in physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, reviewing inventory adjustments and researching discrepancies.
- Monitors inventory transactions and valuation to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and U.S. GAAP.
- Prepares monthly manufacturing cost & profitability reports and reconciles manufacturing data to the ERP system.
- Reviews manufacturing productivity reporting and collaborates with production teams to analyze labor and operational performance.
- Supports the development and maintaining manufacturing cost centers and supports accurate cost allocation.
- Maintains and strengthens internal controls related to inventory, production, shipping, and receiving activities.
- Provides support for quarterly and annual financial audits by preparing account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and requested documentation.
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of related experience in a manufacturing setting required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work in a paperless environment.
Working knowledge of:
Standard costing
Inventory accounting
Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Manufacturing cost centers
Manufacturing variance analysis
Inventory control processes
Understanding of and the ability to adhere to US GAAP.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Experience with an ERP system. Working knowledge of Sage 100 ERP Accounting Software preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Finance.
