As a Host at Costa Covo, you make the first and last impression on our guests, creating a warm and welcoming restaurant environment. You will greet guests, manage reservations, and coordinate the flow of the dining experience. In this role, you will support overall restaurant operations, maintain a clean and organized work area and provide exceptional hospitality through your professionalism, attention to detail, and guest-focused approach. Your ability to anticipate guest needs and create positive interactions will help set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.
JOB SUMMARY:
- Greet, kindly direct, and seat guests at assigned tables based on reservations and walk-in seating.
- Maintain and execute luxury service standards.
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.
- Understand and communicate daily specials and specialty menus to guests.
- Maximize guest seating options and revenues by diligently managing the reservations program (Open Table).
- Contact guests as needed to move, confirm, or adjust reservations.
- Answer telephone courteously and efficiently as specified in departmental standards.
- Support servers and bartenders with service needs in between seating guests and after all reservations have been seated.
- Assist with promptly resetting tables to standard.
- Communicate any reservations notes to server assigned to table (celebrations, preferences, etc.).
- Be perceptive, proactive, and engaging. Anticipate your guest’s needs. Personalize the guest experience when possible; remember your guest and their requests
- Complete all daily side work tasks efficiently and thoroughly.
- Restock host stand with clean menus, pens, charged tablet, trash removal, etc. daily. Keep host area clean and tidy at all times.
- Be proactive in seeking out additional duties such as wiping down menus, sweeping, cleaning patio doors, etc.
- Check out with manager once shift is complete.
- Practice conscious knowledge of food allergies and safety in preparation.
- Professionally handle guest complaints, solve problems, apologize/emphasize during guest complaints, follow up. Communicate any elevated complaints that could not be resolved to Food & Beverage management.
- Demonstrate a team-focused attitude and encourage collaboration.
- Be familiar with all hotel services/features and local attractions/activities to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Understand and use safe work practices for all safety precautions including Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Violence in the Workplace, Accident Reporting, OSHA Compliance, and Bloodborne Pathogen Procedures.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
- Comply with all policies as outlined in the Handbook, Property Supplement, or otherwise issued including time and attendance expectations, uniform and dress code standards, anti-harassment policy, and substances in the workplace.
- Each colleague is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management which the colleague can perform.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Ability to remain standing for up to 8 hours

- Ability to regularly move and lift up to 30 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work will primarily take place in a hotel resort and restaurant environment, in both guest-facing and employee back of house areas.
- Some seasonal exterior work with exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
- Group and solo work.
- Exposure to various hazardous chemicals, to be used only as instructed.
KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Prior experience in a restaurant setting preferred, but not required.
- Able to complete a satisfactory background check.
- Available and willing to work flexible hours based on business needs including weekdays and weekends.
- Demonstrates strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Expresses sincere enthusiasm for the role and passion for food and beverage.
- Must know how to prioritize, delegate, and respond in a timely fashion. Able to work under pressure, multi-task, and stay focused while maintaining hospitality.
- Ability to use standard software applications and hotel systems.
- Knowledge of Food & Beverage and operational procedures beneficial.
- Knowledge of overall hotel operations as they affect department.
