Overview

The Counseling and Student Success Specialist supports students' accessibility to EvCC Counseling and Student Support (CSS) services and ensures students have accurate and up-to-date information regarding CSS services. This position plays a critical role in increasing student awareness of available counseling services at EvCC along with supporting students seeking and participating in counseling services across campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Coordination

  • Provide students with information on counseling services and related campus resources.
  • Manage referrals from campus programs and services.
  • Manage the Counseling Services email, scheduling students for counseling appointments and communicating effectively with the counseling team regarding urgency of students' counseling needs.
  • Assist students with completion of required counseling documents and forms.
  • Support accessibility and student-centered language of student-facing documents related to counseling services.
  • Act as a liaison to campus programs and services to support a seamless student experience.
  • Collect and aggregate student-feedback data to inform improvement of student counseling services.
  • Support planning of counseling student success events, to support the student experience.

Policy Compliance

  • Ensure departmental compliance with FERPA regulations, EvCC policies and procedures, and leadership directives in all processes and transactions.
  • Support compliance with the Counseling and Student Success Program spending and budget reconciliation.
  • Share state, federal, and institutional policies to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Communicate procedural updates pertaining to student services to counselors and campus programs as appropriate.
  • Ensure proper distribution of forms, and assist in updating student forms and email communications to align with policy compliance requirements and student accessibility.
  • Maintain accurate student records as they pertain to the position, Counseling and Student Success Specialist.
  • Edit and ensure accessibility of the Counseling and Student Success website.

Collaborative Problem-Solving

  • Liaise with multiple programs and services to resolve student issues and ensure accurate communication.
  • Troubleshoot student scheduling of counseling services issues as they arise, student accessibility issues, and unaddressed student needs that may arise, providing actionable solutions.
  • Guide students through processes, offering alternatives and explaining implications of decisions.

General Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service to a large and diverse student body via multiple mediums, including in-person, email, text, and phone.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives to improve operations and student support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and meet campus needs.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree with course work in business, hospitality, education, human services or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in student services, program support, or similar responsibilities.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skills in providing high-quality customer service.
  • Strong in-person and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with each student including students who are in agitated or in emotional crisis.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in navigating and troubleshooting student information systems, such as ctcLink.
  • Knowledge of state and federal policies related to counseling services.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations accurately.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, education, human services or a related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Overtime eligible - FLSA non-exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Represented by Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
  • Performance will be evaluated after a six (6) month probationary period and annually.
