NBAPOSN Title Working Title Counseling Director Brief Position Overview

The Student Health Services (SHS) Counseling Director provides exceptional clinical student mental health services and exemplary leadership of the SHS counseling program at both City College and the University Campus. Additionally, the Counseling Director is the direct supervisor of the SHS clinical mental health staff to include licensed or licensure eligible professional counselors as well as clinical, graduate student interns. The Counseling Director also collaborates with medical, nursing, and wellness providers to support students within an integrated health and wellness setting. The Counseling Director will also be the primary administrator of the clinical mental health electronic health records system and direct the mental health component of AAAHC clinical accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead clinician of a staff that provides clinical mental health services in accordance with MT state law, professional ethics, and community standards.
  • Train, mentor, supervise, and evaluate counseling team members.
  • Provide supervision for clinical interns toward graduate program completion and state licensure.
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team in an integrated health and wellness setting.
  • Maintain a counseling case load and supervise all other counseling activities during business hours which may include crisis response and intervention.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support with crisis intervention, campus programming, and consultation.
  • Take a warm, flexible, and responsive approach to treatment, mentoring, clinical collaboration, relationship building, and community outreach.
  • Be the system administrator for the clinical mental health electronic health records (EHR) system.
  • Monitor thorough and timely clinical documentation using the EHR.
  • Supervise and monitor data sharing with the Collegiate Center for Mental health via the EHR.
  • Provide networking, coalition building, and outreach for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards and requirements.
  • Lead and support the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and participate in continuous quality improvement (QI) initiatives, including data collection, analysis, and reporting to enhance clinical services and outcomes.
  • Serve as an active member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, program development, and organizational decision-making.
  • Serve on committees, work teams, task forces, etc. as requested by the Director of SHS.
  • Engage in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental goals and objectives as they align with the MSUB Strategic Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Required:

Minimum of a master's degree in clinical counseling, clinical social work, clinical psychology, or psychiatric medicine.

Required Qualifications:

  • Montana state licensure being any or either of the following: LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, licensed clinical psychology or licensed and board-certified psychiatrist.
  • Either be licensed in MT in respective discipline for three years or have taken board-approved training consisting of a minimum of one semester credit graduate education focused on supervision or 20 hours of board-approved training in supervision.
  • Person-centered mental health clinician able to tailor counseling to a diverse student population.
  • Public presentation and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to foster partnerships with and provide outreach to the campus community.
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health and wellness team.
  • Willingness and skills to mentor the counseling staff which includes graduate student interns

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years of post-licensure counseling experience.
  • Experience working in a college counseling center or other higher education experience.
  • Past career leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience using and/or administering an electronic health records system.
