The Wayne State College graduate Counseling Department is looking to hire a full-time lecturer with a master's degree in a counseling related field (Doctorate preferred). The ideal candidate is able and interested in serving our CACREP graduate counseling programs in creative and flexible ways. As a lecturer, this position will be required to teach five graduate courses per semester but is not required to serve on official campus committees, conduct advising, nor is required to engage in creative or scholarly academic activities. For somebody who loves to teach and interact with students, this is the perfect position. Wayne State College's graduate Counseling Department delivers curriculum through an online, residency-based model, similar to many graduate counseling programs across the country. Our residency program meets two weekends per semester, for a total of four weekends during the regular academic calendar. This lecturer position can be renewed for up to three years. Desired start date is Fall 2025.

Responsible for providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College.

Teach graduate courses in counseling. Work collaboratively with other faculty in a professional and collegial manner, contribute to the continued growth and development of the counseling program at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Examples of Work Performed

  1. Contribute to students' academic growth and development, which includes all of the following.

A. Teaching, which includes but is not limited to the following:

i. Have knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject

ii. Maintain competence in the assigned field of specialization and exhibit professional competence in the classroom, studio, or laboratory

iii. Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning

iv. Maintain respect for the student and the student's posture as a learner

v. Organize course and subject matter to acquaint all students with the course requirements including specific objectives and methods of evaluation

vi. Organize course presentations through short-term and long-range outcomes

vii. Present abstract ideas and theories clearly

viii. Conduct classroom presentations and activities utilizing methods appropriate to reach students of varying educational/experiential backgrounds and learning styles

ix. Actively engage students in lectures, discussions, or laboratories

x. Coordinate handouts, video, and/or online materials, and/or articles to update course content

xi. Incorporate new methodologies in teaching and technology into classes

xii. Encourage student to think for themselves

xiii. Be flexible and innovative with teaching styles and approaches, as appropriate to the class

xiv. Be reliable in meeting scheduled responsibilities

xv. Be accessible to students; post and maintain office hours

xvi. Provide regular and timely assessment of student progress

xvii. Be fair in examinations and grading

xviii. Participate in program assessment and catalog revisions

xix. Periodically evaluate and develop new courses, where necessary, revise and update existing courses to maintain relevant and current content.

xx. Participate in program review and updating requirements

Required Qualifications

Education:

Master's Degree in a counseling related field is required; Earned Doctorate preferred.

Experience:

Experience in teaching and in research/scholarship, and experience in effectively using technology to facilitate student learning and to expand student access preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP accredited program.
  • Experience teaching college courses, professional service, and evidence of scholarly work and research related to counseling.
  • Clinical and supervision experience with diverse populations.
  • Identifies with the counseling profession through memberships in professional organizations (e.g. ACA or ASCA and their divisions).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty in a professional and collegial manner, and contribute to the continued growth and development of the counseling program at the graduate level and human services program at the undergraduate level; and willing to travel to off-campus delivery sites.
  • Specialization in applied behavior analysis.
  • Experience as a clinician.
  • Proof of experience as a school counselor in a PK-12 setting; Licensed or licensure eligible in the state of Nebraska as a school counselor.
  • Licensed or licensure eligible in the state of Nebraska as a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner.

License and Certification Requirements Other Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license

Salary Information Competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Attractive and comprehensive benefit package. Annual salary range is $58,000 - $67,000. FTE
