Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM

Some evenings, on-call responsibilities, and weekends may be required based on program needs.

Are you passionate about helping individuals overcome substance use and mental health challenges? Pyramid Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Counselor to join our behavioral health team in Bowie, Maryland.

As a Counselor, you will provide comprehensive clinical services to individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and other behavioral health concerns. Working alongside an interdisciplinary treatment team, you'll help clients develop the skills, support systems, and treatment plans necessary to achieve long-term recovery and wellness.

What You'll Do

As a Counselor, you will:

  • Evaluate the behavioral, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and social needs of clients and their families.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
  • Facilitate individual counseling, family therapy sessions, therapeutic groups, and psychoeducational programming.
  • Coordinate care and communicate with referral sources, outpatient providers, and other stakeholders when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation within the electronic health record in accordance with program policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide documentation and clinical support for utilization review activities and continued stay authorizations.
  • Participate in discharge planning, aftercare development, and outcome tracking initiatives.
  • Conduct Level of Care Assessments as needed.
  • Assist with program curriculum development, clinical programming enhancements, and evidence-based treatment initiatives.
  • Participate in on-call rotations based on program and organizational needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound clinical judgment in all aspects of client care.
  • Complete all required trainings and maintain compliance with licensing, accreditation, and company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

Candidates must possess one of the following Maryland credentials:

  • Maryland Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT)
  • LGPC (Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor)
  • LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor)
  • LGADC (Licensed Graduate Alcohol and Drug Counselor)
  • LCADC (Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor)
  • LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker)
  • LCSW-C (Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical)
  • Any active trainee status, certification, or professional licensure recognized by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized training in:
    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
    • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
    • Trauma-Informed Care
    • Collaborative Documentation
  • Experience working within:
    • Substance Use Disorder Treatment
    • Behavioral Health Programs
    • Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment
    • Residential Treatment
    • Outpatient Treatment Programs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong clinical assessment and counseling abilities
  • Sound clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and apply information to solve complex clinical situations
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and client risk concerns
  • Knowledge of behavioral health, substance use treatment, accreditation standards, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
