Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide assistance and consultation to secondary level teachers and students in the areas of learning and behavior
Facilitate new student enrollment and transition of secondary students from one educational level to the next
Provide consultation to assist parent(s) with concerns related to students' school adjustment and performance
Provide counseling for individuals and groups with educational, social and personal concerns
Provide current information to parents, students and staff regarding available community resources and agencies
Identify and refer students who may qualify for specialized services, i.e. special education, etc.
Assist secondary students with career search activities
Assist with development of strategies or services for secondary students needing assistance within the school environment
Meet with other counselors, staff and district committees to work toward good communication and problem solving
Work to develop in the students a sense of consideration for others and of responsibility for contributing to the benefit of the school
Participate in professional growth opportunities
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess or be eligible for Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate with a school counselor endorsement
Successful secondary teaching or counseling experience preferred
Must have completed a successful supervised practicum experience
Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in the field of secondary school guidance counseling
Demonstrated ability using effective counseling techniques with secondary level students
Demonstrated willingness and ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff and administration
Demonstrated successful experience working with secondary students and ability to relate to young people
Demonstrated experience in building secondary master schedules and working with students on meeting graduation requirements
Demonstrated desire to continue professional growth
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to administer standardized tests and to interpret standardized test results
Demonstrated experience with and willingness to coordinate state and district testing
Knowledge of essential learning's and ability to help integrate them into the secondary classrooms
Knowledge of and ability to use the National Counseling Standards
Demonstrated ability to perform crisis intervention with secondary students
Demonstrated understanding of community resources available to assist students and families with counseling needs
Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
Demonstrate knowledge of computer skills i.e. Skyward, Web Development, Microsoft programs
Demonstrated ability to gather and use data to help make informative decisions
Evidence of a high degree of confidentiality
Must be willing to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
Demonstrated use of an RTI model
Demonstrated understanding of threat assessment procedures/HIB (harassment, intimidation, bullying)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience writing and maintaining 504 documents
Demonstrated willingness to coordinate and administer ACT and/or SAT tests
Demonstrated knowledge and coordination of Running Start program
