Posting Text Job Summary Basic Function: SUNY Potsdams College Counseling Center is committed to providing high-quality, confidential, ethical, and culturally affirming mental health services to SUNY Potsdam students. Staff members work as a collaborative team to offer services from an integrated clinical/developmental model to assist students as they pursue their education while in attendance during the semester. The Counseling Center at SUNY Potsdam invites applications for a 11-month full-time Staff Counselor position. The counselor will provide a wide range of clinical services at this comprehensive counseling center, including triage, individual and group psychotherapy, consultation, and crisis assessment/response. The position includes weekend and weekday after-hours responsibilities on a rotating basis. In addition, case management responsibilities for all students using the services will include coordination and communication with off-campus mental health providers and on-campus resources.

Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job Make referrals to off-campus providers and facilities when needed and coordinate the readmission process for students away from campus for psychological reasons. Participate in outreach programming, training with student groups, and occasional campus committee participation. Respond to inquiries from parents, staff, and faculty regarding Counseling Center services. Maintain scheduling and clinical documentation on Counseling Center database. Teach the Peer Counseling course and provide ongoing supervision and mentorship to peer counselors completing their internship, including training, case consultation, skill development, and evaluation of counseling competencies.

Required Qualifications Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work License eligible in New York State (LMHC, LMSW, L-CSW, MHC-LP, MSW) Experience providing services to diverse and inclusive populations. Prior counseling and psychotherapy experience with college-aged students. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including writing skills with an emphasis on timely and thorough documentation. Prior experience in dealing with crisis situations. Ability to follow through and work both independently as well as part of a team with a positive attitude. Previous experience in providing case management services. Effective use and management of multiple technological tools, e.g. Electronic Health Records, PowerPoint, social media applications, tele-counseling software.

Preferred Qualifications Previous experience at a college/university counseling center with short-term therapy models.
