Responsibilities

Summary

The Program Counselor has the primary responsibility of providing therapeutic program services to Participants. The Program Counselor is assigned a specific caseload of participants and monitors the service delivery for them while they are enrolled in the program. These services may include didactic, psychoeducational, individual, and group counseling, peer awareness activities, therapeutic encounters, crisis intervention, and recordkeeping. The Program Counselor provides these services within the scope of local certification, licensure, and credentialing authorities and in accordance with internal and external assurances and prohibitions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Counselor ensures compliance with standard internal and external and other accrediting agency contract policies and procedures.

Facilitates daily clinical program activities in accordance with the established clinical schedule. Activities may include:

• Daily process groups • Individual sessions • Case management meetings • Weekly program curriculum lectures • Life Skills seminars • Caseload groups • Specialized groups focusing on Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Relapse Prevention, Job Readiness preparation, and Parenting Skills

The Program Counselor may conduct initial intake sessions with new participants assigned to the program and orientate them about program requirements, reviews the participants file, and establishes a preliminary treatment plan.

Conducts weekly individual counseling sessions with assigned caseload. These sessions may include:

• Completion of a monthly progress report • Monthly treatment planning • Goal-setting • Crisis intervention • Behavioral adjustment sessions • Psychological referrals • Discharge planning

The Program Counselor maintains clinical charts, electronic and hard copy versions, for assigned caseload and ensures all documentation is completed in accordance with established deadlines and program policies.

Participates in compilation of data and program reporting functions.

Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum B.A. degree, preferably in human services
  • OR possess a CADC Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Preference given to experience within a correctional setting
  • Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
