As a nationally accredited program with strong educational component in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) in Albuquerque investigates any death occurring in New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification.

OMI is seeking a Counselor/Social Worker for our Grief Services Program. The OMI Grief Services Program focuses on providing counseling, information, referrals, advocacy, and emotional support to those dealing with the sudden death of someone they love. This program provides short-term counseling and referral to community grief support groups or longer-term counseling options. These services are provided at no cost to families.

Our ideal candidates will have background in family and children''s counseling, specific to trauma, PTSD, grief, and loss. We are looking for someone who finds enjoyment in the solution focused model and understands the referral processes for various agencies in the area.

As a part of the School of Medicine, we are a teaching facility and invite interns into our programs to learn. Our ideal candidates will be excited to give leadership and guidance to these interns.
