Summary:
Under general supervision and as part of a team, the Counselor position is responsible for the administration and scoring of standardized substance abuse screening and assessment instruments for all participants entering the department of corrections. An American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) based level of care will be determined based on the assessment. This position will also provide various levels of substance abuse treatment based on the results of the screening and assessment. Levels of treatment will be consistent with the ASAM Level of Care.

Minimum Requirements:
Associate degree in Health and Human Services counseling field and an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) designation OR;
Bachelor's degree in Health and Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field and Certified Associate Counselor - Drug & Alcohol (CAC-AD) certification.
Certified as an alcohol and drug counselor by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.
Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred.
Ability to work a varied schedule that may include evenings.
Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with participants, other staff, and leadership personnel and react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the Department.
