Job Title: Counter Clerk / Operations Support Representative (Inside Sales)

Job Description

This role supports a steel pipe distribution operation by combining customer service, inside sales, and operations coordination. You will assist customers with quotes and orders, work closely with the yard and warehouse to verify materials and inventory, and ensure orders move smoothly from inquiry through delivery. The position offers a balanced mix of office-based work and hands-on interaction with materials, giving you a clear view of how products flow through the business.

Responsibilities

  • Support customers by preparing quotes, entering orders, and responding to product inquiries via phone, email, and in person.

  • Work closely with operations teams to confirm inventory levels, product availability, and order details before processing.

  • Visit the yard as needed to verify materials, check specifications, and support order accuracy.

  • Coordinate with shipping, receiving, and sales teams to ensure a smooth and timely order flow from quote to delivery.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, fabricators, and industrial customers to support ongoing business.

  • Assist with tracking orders, monitoring status, and providing proactive updates to customers.

  • Investigate and help resolve order issues or discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.

  • Maintain up-to-date familiarity with products, pricing, and inventory to provide accurate information to customers and colleagues.

  • Provide general customer support and account management assistance as needed.

  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by supporting coworkers and stepping in where needed.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of inside sales, sales support, or customer-facing experience, preferably in a B2B or industrial environment.

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person, over the phone, and via email.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate between office and operations teams to ensure order accuracy and timely fulfillment.

  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.

  • Basic computer skills, including working with order entry systems, email, and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Team-focused mindset with a willingness to support colleagues and adapt to operational needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in inventory coordination or materials-focused environments is beneficial.

  • Comfort working in a role that blends office responsibilities with collaboration across warehouse and yard operations.

  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with contractors, fabricators, and industrial customers.

  • Comfort working in both office and warehouse or materials yard settings.

Work Environment

The position is based in a combined Office/Warehouse/Materials Yard environment, offering a mix of desk-based work and time spent in the yard verifying materials and supporting operations. You will regularly collaborate with shipping, receiving, and yard personnel in an industrial setting where steel pipe and related materials are handled. The work schedule follows a consistent full-time, Monday–Friday pattern, providing predictable hours while allowing you to stay closely connected to both customers and operational activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
