Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period.

  • Two (2) years of previous experience in clerical support, courier, or high volume mail operation.

  • Demonstrated experience should include supervisory and/or administrative aspects of the work.

  • Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address.

  • All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history.

  • Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three (3) year, seven (7) year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted. If you have possessed a drivers license in any other state in the past 7 years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state. For non-Florida driving histories, please contact that states division of motor vehicles

  • The search date for all driving histories must be within one month of the date the application for employment is received by the Bureau of Human Resources.

Nature of Work

Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to provide supervision in the delivery, dispatch and retrieval of documents, mail, evidence, property and other related items. Employees in this classification perform courier and clerical support duties, with responsibility for the pick up, scheduling, recording and delivery of inter/intra-departmental documents, evidence, property and related items. Employees in this classification are distinguished from that of the Courier level by having acquired specific experience in the disciplines of the unit. Employees in this classification perform lead work duties within the unit by supervising and monitoring work performed. Performs related work as directed.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Reviews and monitors customer requests and complaints and determines proper resolution.

Assigns duties to subordinates and verifies that all assignments are completed.

Monitors office supplies and prepares requests for supplies.

Notifies unit manager of equipment and or vehicle malfunctions.

Assists in assessing the efficiency of operations and in recommending and implementing changes as necessary.

Supervises and provides training to employees in work methods and procedures.

Determines the need for special attention to operating or technical requirements and leaves instructions for other shift personnel for their execution; keeps records and reports of operations.

Assists in performing personnel management duties, i.e., scheduling, assigning duties, recommending hire, transfer, discipline, promotion.

Provides for pick-up, scheduling, recording, receipt, and delivery of inter/intra-departmental documents, evidence, property and related items.

Opens, sorts, and arranges items; determines postage and prepares mail, packages, office supplies and other items.

Delivers mail, packages, office supplies and other items, operating vehicles as needed.

Generates and files a variety of reports and records as related to assigned courier function.

Performs related duties as directed.

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Some tasks are performed in an office environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. When operating an agency vehicle, work includes exposure to daily traffic conditions. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some tasks include working around moving parts, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.

Recruitment Information
