Course Assistant for Parsons Fall Academy (Grades 3-12)

Parsons Academy offers a variety of art and design courses for students in grades 3 through 12 in subjects ranging from fine arts and illustration to design disciplines such as fashion design, interior design, photography, animation, and more. Students in grades 9-12 with prior art and design experiences may take our portfolio development course to re-envision their current body of creative work as they create portfolio presentations for the college admissions process. Classes meet on campus on Saturdays in the spring semester.

This position will assist with teaching and learning in a class environment for students ranging from Grades 3-12 through non-instructional activities. The Course Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Operations and Planning, Parsons Academy.

This position is expected to work on campus on the following days. The work schedule will be finalized upon hiring.

• October 3 - December 12, 2026

• Saturdays (except Thanksgiving holiday - No classes on Saturday, November 28)

• 10:00 am-1:00 pm ET (3 hours of paid time)

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902, and the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attending class sessions and supporting faculty, including chaperoning for field trips.

• Assisting with classroom set-up and breakdown, including for Open Studios. 

• Demonstrating techniques.

• Collecting assignments and projects.

• Building community among students to serve academic success.

• Assisting new students with campus navigation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Current New School students in good academic standing and enrolled for Fall 2026.

• Responsible and punctual with the ability to meet deadlines and respond promptly.

• Positive disposition to represent the university and a willingness to help students from diverse backgrounds progress in their summer intensive experience.

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.

• Proficiency with Canvas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with art and design.

• Flexibility and willingness to support the New School community.

WORK MODE

On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely. #LI-DNI

HOURLY RATE

$25.13 per hour

Responsibilities:

Parsons Academy Course Assistant offers assistance in teaching and learning in an art and design class environment for students ranging from Grades 3-12 through non-instructional activities, which include supporting faculty, chaperoning field trips, assisting with classroom set-up and breakdown, demonstrating techniques and collecting assignments and projects.
