Course Designer - Genetics

Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Elmira College was the first college to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, and is home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies. We are seeking a Genetics Course Designer to join the Academic Affairs team.

Elmira College is seeking an experienced Course Developer to design and build a fully online, high-quality 3000 level online genetics course. The course must meet established online quality standards, including alignment with the OSCQR Rubric.

This role requires a professional with both deep subject-matter expertise in genetics and demonstrated experience in online instructional design. The ideal candidate will create engaging, accessible, and pedagogically sound learning experiences that prepare pre-med students for academic success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and develop a fully online, asynchronous 12-week genetics course aligned with MCAT competencies
  • Ensure all course components meet OSCWR Rubric standards (course organization, accessibility, assessment, interaction, and learner support)
  • Develop MCAT-style, passage-based assessments with detailed rationales
  • Integrate multimedia learning elements (videos, animations, interactive activities) to support diverse learners
  • Design opportunities or student engagement, interaction, and self-assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field (PhD preferred; Master's required)
  • Demonstrated experience developing fully online courses in higher education or test preparation
  • Working knowledge of the OSCQR Rubric and online course quality standards
  • Experience with instructional design models
  • Proven experience building courses in Canvas
  • Expertise in core genetics concepts and MCAT-relevant topics
  • Strong assessment design skills, particularly for standardized test preparation
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail

WORK LOCATION: Remote

COMPENSATION: $2,000 upon completion of course design.

This position is not benefit eligible.
