Under general supervision, maintains general security and safety of the Superior Court and Justice Courts in Yuma County; supervises and deploys subordinate security personnel and coordinates assignments; assigns and monitors Court Security Officers; this is a working manager position, the incumbent is expected to perform full range of Court Security Officer duties as needed while also providing leadership, guidance, and oversight to assigned staff.
Nature of Work
(illustrative Only)Provides leadership and supervision to Court Security Officers; monitors security officer activities and professional behavior; assigns security posts and duty stations for optimal security coverage; interprets policies, directives, orders, and other operational regulations, assures that instructions are followed and consistently applied; provides recommendations and assistance in the operation of the Safety and Security Program of Superior Court in Yuma County; assesses work and provides input regarding performance appraisals for Court Security Officer positions; evaluates equipment and training and recommends purchases and operational improvements; performs other supervisory functions as directed; performs high liability in-service training for Court Security Officers, including security operations, defensive tactics, and use of firearms and weapons; manages Court electronic security systems; monitors closed circuit TV and various fire and security alarm systems; performs walking and mobile patrols of designated areas; provides security escort services as requested; responds to emergencies, and implements emergency procedures when appropriate and as directed; operates metal detectors and x-ray screening machines to detect concealed weapons and hazardous objects; prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas; interacts with the general public, Court officers, peace officers, and employees, and provides customer service as required; assists law enforcement agencies with security surveillance and enforcement of writs of detainer; prepares and submits reports on security incidents; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information; abide by the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees; performs related duties as required or assigned.
Experience and Education
High school diploma or GED; AND three years of progressively responsible law enforcement, military, private security, or closely related experience that includes one year of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background and reference checks; this classification requires the applicant to pass a psychological evaluation and polygraph examination; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required; employees in this classification must have at the time of application and must maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License with a clean driving record; work included 10 hour shifts, weekend rotations and work station rotations; Incumbents must successfully complete the Court Security Officer Academy and Firearms Academy within the first twelve months of employment. The incumbent must also maintain all required certifications, qualifications, and firearms proficiency standards as a condition of continued employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and Court facilities; may be exposed to potential physical harm, infectious diseases and/or physical violence; required to physically restrain persons, and effectively deal with stressful and potentially hazardous emergency situations; must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards; may be required to lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items; must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk and use stairs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures, applicable Federal rules, and requirements; Yuma County Policies and Procedures; Rules and Guidelines of the Judicial Merit System of Superior Court in Yuma County; principles, practices, techniques, and equipment used in Court security; standard Operating Guidelines for the Security Division of Superior Court in Yuma County.; basic principles and practices of public personnel administration, public administration, and court administration, including the basic principles of organization, supervision, and management; electronic security systems and programming; legal terminology, and court processes and procedures; community resources and services.
Skills in: Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds; working under pressure in a dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities; in communicating effectively with persons who are confused, angry, and/or openly hostile; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with court employees, and the public; exercising sound judgment within general policy guidelines; using and maintaining firearms, special weapons, and special law enforcement equipment; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
Ability to: Interact with people who are confused, angry, and/or openly hostile, while maintaining proper security and decorum; identify hazardous or unsafe conditions and behaviors; qualify with firearms and less lethal weapons, as assigned, on an annual basis; attend a 40-hour Court Security Officer training course and be certified in accordance with standards set by the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts; evaluate and respond to security problems in a swift, effective manner, and with appropriate actions; follow written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Medical Coverage Category
The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from two (2) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employees needs, dependents or families.
Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 1100 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing a preventative visit.
Plan Option 2: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) with a 1700 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing a preventative visit.
Employer contributes a total of $800.04 to employees Health Savings Account. If employees select Employee only and participate in the "Wellness Incentive" employees can receive up to 360.00 contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card to be used for medical or dental purposes.
International Medical Solutions (IMS): IMS is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan A and HDHP. Members enrolled in the PPO plan can pay as little as $5 copay for doctor visits & prescription drug services, with no maximum cap. High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) pay toward their deductible until is met. After the deductible is satisfied, the plan will pay 80% of the services covered, and the member will be responsible for the remaining 20% coinsurance.
