Job Summary
The Coy Lab in the Biology Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is seeking a part-time, casual-status Laboratory Assistant to support research in microbial ecology and experimental biology. This position is well-suited for an organized, dependable individual who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative laboratory environment. The Laboratory Assistant will support a range of day-to-day laboratory and research activities, including:
This is an on-site position requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week during standard business hours. A supervisor will be present during working hours, and the assistant will work closely with other lab members.
Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided, including instruction in laboratory techniques such as microbial isolation, microscopy-based workflows, and sample processing for analytical pipelines. Responsibilities will expand with demonstrated proficiency.

- LA I: $ 19.50 /hr
- LA II: $ 20.25 /hr
The hourly rate provided for this position reflects the set base pay for new hires. Final level placement will be determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market conditions.
Education & Experience
Lab Assistant I: High School Diploma or equivalent. CAD familiarity is desired.
Lab Assistant II: High School Diploma with some lab experience. CAD familiarity is desired.
All position levels require basic computer skills and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
