Description San Mateo County Parks Department is recruiting for a Seasonal Park Aide to work primarily at Coyote Point Marina. The Park Aide will perform routine Park duties such as cleaning restrooms, litter pick-up, landscape maintenance, weed control, line trimming, debris removal and general facilities maintenance. The Park Aide will perform dock repairs and assist marina staff with Emergency Response aboard the Harbor Patrol boat. The Park Aide will also periodically staff the marina office, interact with boat owners, sell fuel and ice, and accept rent payments.
The position requires working weekends, holidays and some flexibility with hours. This position could require driving to different marina locations and handling power-driven tools and machines. Candidates selected for this position must have a valid California driver license or equivalent and must be at least 18 years of age at the date of hire due to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) restrictions, and must be able to swim unaided in open water.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Application/Examination This is an extra help recruitment. Anyone may apply. The examination process will consist of an application screening (pass/fail) based on the candidates application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.
All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California, and applicants must participate at their own expense. This is a continuous recruitment which may close at any time.
