The purpose of the work unit is to manage, enhance, and protect wildlife populations and their habitat for the use, benefit, and enjoyment of the people of Colorado, its visitors, and future generations.
Description of Job
The position exists to manage, enhance, and protect wildlife habitat on Oxbow SWA, Purgatoire SWA, Setchfield SWA and various lease properties for the benefit, and enjoyment of the hunting and non-hunting public. The technician is responsible for working cooperatively with district wildlife managers, biologists, and partners to identify and implement habitat improvement projects and a wide variety of other wildlife related responsibilities. This position is responsible for the routine maintenance of state wildlife areas, facilities, and for area equipment maintenance. This position will also develop and implement operation plans, budgets, work plans and management plans for SWAs. The position will work independently and/or collaboratively to achieve the goals and objectives in the Division's Strategic Plan.
Property Management
Cooperatively develop and implement habitat improvements, five-year maintenance, and legal compliance plans. Assesses SWA's deficiencies and identifies future needs. Determines project priority in accordance with CPWs Strategic Plan, Regional direction, and area work plans. Consult with internal and external wildlife professionals on specific project needs. Administers all agricultural leases on state wildlife areas. Maintains, improves, and utilizes irrigation delivery systems on a daily basis throughout irrigation
season. Manages noxious weeds.
Maintenance
Maintain, monitor, and repair equipment and property facilities to include fencing, signing, parking lot and access points, bridges, roads, check stations, boat ramps, toilets, water manipulation devices and buildings. Use and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment to include heavy equipment, farm machinery and large power tools.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain all pertinent and informational records, property files, and photos. Maintain tools, equipment, and capital equipment inventories. Updates and maintains certifications and skills through continuous experience and by attending conferences/trainings. Acquires goods and services while following appropriate purchasing and fiscal procedures/rules, process temporary personnel documents, maintains technical knowledge and qualification in chemical application for weeds. Administers agricultural leases on state wildlife areas.
Customer Service
Provide customer service on CPW properties, in the field, and/or in the office. Provide information on general wildlife related questions and handle nuisance wildlife calls within the area when needed while providing a professional appearance adhering to uniform policies.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management. construction management or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required.
OR
A combination of related education in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Biology, Aquatic Biology/Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Fishery Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Outdoor Recreation, Zoology/Animal Sciences, Engineering, P.E / Professional Engineer, Water resources planning or management, Program Management/Project Management, Agricultural Sciences and/or relevant experience in agriculture management, natural resource management, facility/building operations, grounds management. construction management equal to four (4) years.
Substitutions
Appropriate education in construction or project management, natural resources, environmental science, recreation management, business or a related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
