Crane Mechanic
Job summary:
This position supports an industrial operation that utilizes mobile and stationary crane systems for heavy‑material handling. The Crane Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining multiple types of lifting equipment, including mobile, overhead, tower, and crawler configurations. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability, familiarity with hydraulic systems, and the skill to perform repairs both in the shop and in the field.
Responsibilities:
* Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues affecting crane performance.
* Perform preventive maintenance, scheduled inspections, and safety checks to keep equipment operating reliably.
* Repair or replace components such as hoisting assemblies, gear drives, motors, pumps, brakes, wiring, and control systems.
* Review technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to support troubleshooting.
* Document all service work, including parts usage, labor hours, and corrective actions.
* Test repaired cranes to verify proper operation and safety compliance.
* Collaborate with operators, maintenance teams, and technical personnel to address equipment concerns.
* Use diagnostic instruments, heavy‑duty tools, and lifting equipment safely.
* Follow OSHA guidelines and manufacturer safety requirements.
* Travel as needed to conduct on‑site service or emergency repairs
Requirements:
* High school diploma or GED; technical training or associate‑level mechanical education preferred.
* Prior experience repairing cranes or heavy industrial equipment.
* Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
* Skilled with diagnostic tools, hand tools, and related service equipment.
* Comfortable working independently or in teams in outdoor or high‑risk environments.
* Valid driver's license.
* Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor.
* Must be able to obtain a TWIC card after hire.
Preferences:
* NCCCO or similar crane‑related certification.
* Welding or fabrication experience.
* Familiarity with major crane manufacturers or equipment types.
